10/21/2024

The Brazilian National Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) has officially taken the head of the Federation of Rural Associations of Mercosur (FARM), marking a significant milestone for agricultural cooperation in the region. The leadership transition will allow Brazil to strengthen its influence on discussing trade, sustainability, and innovation among the Mercosur member nations. João Martins, President of CNA, emphasized that under CNA’s leadership, FARM will aim to boost the global competitiveness of agricultural producers across Mercosur countries by pushing forward a single agenda.

FARM, which gathers agricultural organizations from Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, has played a crucial role in advocating for the needs of rural producers. Now, with CNA at the helm, the organization will focus on creating stronger agricultural policies, easing access to international markets, and overcoming trade barriers that have historically limited the region’s growth potential.
One of the key priorities of CNA’s leadership will be advancing sustainability in agricultural practices. This includes promoting technological innovations that increase productivity while reducing environmental impacts. Additionally, the organization will play a vital role in discussions on climate change, ensuring that Mercosur countries implement measures that balance economic development with environmental preservation.

CNA’s leadership comes at a critical time, as global challenges such as food security, sustainability, and international trade negotiations are becoming increasingly complex. By coordinating efforts, FARM will work to ensure that rural producers are heard in these global talks, further strengthening the role of South America in the agricultural sector worldwide.
