Brazil has reached a historic milestone by becoming the world’s largest cotton exporter, surpassing the United States. Brazilian cotton exports are expected to reach 2.70 million tons of processed cotton between August 2023 and July 2024. This achievement was initially estimated for 2030, showing Brazil’s fast growth in the global market.
The success of Brazilian cotton is the result of 25 years of commitment and investment from the Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (ABRAPA). In partnership with ApexBrasil, ABRAPA focuses on research, advanced technology, and strategic trade promotion. This collaborative effort significantly strengthened Brazil’s presence and competitiveness in the international cotton industry.
Cotton Brazil: Expanding Horizons
Cotton Brazil, launched in 2020, is a flagship project that will expand Brazil’s cotton exports worldwide. This initiative is a partnership involving ApexBrasil, ABRAPA, and the National Association of Cotton Exporters (ANEA); it is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA). Its goal is to consolidate and expand Brazil’s position in global cotton markets.
One major action in this project was the opening of a strategic office in Singapore, which functions as a hub to facilitate Brazilian cotton exports to Asia, where demand is consistently high.
Focus on Priority Markets
Cotton Brazil focuses on ten priority countries, including China, Bangladesh, Vietnam, and Turkey, which together account for 95% of Brazil’s cotton exports. The program has organized 52 international events so far, engaging over 500 buyers and stakeholders, and helping Brazil build long-term relationships with key global players in the textile industry.
Commitment to Excellence
Brazilian cotton’s growth is rooted in its commitment to quality, sustainability, and traceability. These values, combined with advanced technology, ensure that Brazil’s leadership in the cotton industry will continue to thrive for years to come.
