Brazilian Agribusiness Exports Reach US$82.39 Billion in the First Half of 2024

In the first half of 2024, Brazilian agribusiness exports reached an impressive US$ 82.39 billion, marking the second-highest worth in the historical series. This performance underscores the robust and competitive nature of Brazil’s agribusiness sector on the global stage.

Key Sectors and Their Shares
The following five sectors were pivotal in achieving these results:
Soy Complex – Leading the charge, the Soy Complex exported US$ 33.53 billion, accounting for 40.7% of the total agribusiness exports.
Meats – The Meat sector followed it with US$ 11.81 billion in exports, representing 14.3% of the total. Beef stood out, adding US$ 5.14 billion, a remarkable 18.3% increase from the previous year. The volume of in natura beef exports reached a record 1.14 million tons, up by 29.1%.
Sugar-ethanol Complex – This sector saw exports rise to US$ 9.22 billion, or 11.2% of the total. Sugar exports alone amounted to US$ 8.66 billion, a significant 62.8% increase, with raw cane sugar setting records in both worth (US$ 7.21 billion) and quantity (14.33 million tons).
Forest Products – Exports in this sector totaled US$ 8.34 billion, accounting for 10.1% of the total. Cellulose was the primary driver, with exports reaching US$ 4.97 billion, 19.5% up. The export volume of cellulose also hit a record: Nearly 10 million tons, a 3.1% increase.
Coffee – The Coffee sector added US$ 5.31 billion, representing 6.4% of the total agribusiness exports, with a 46.1% increase in worth and a 52.1% increase in quantity compared to the previous year.
Together, these sectors accounted for 82.8% of Brazil’s agribusiness exports in the first half of 2024.

Volume Increases Across Key Products
Brazilian agribusiness also saw significant increases in the export quantity of several products:
Grains – Export quantities rose from 14.96 million tons in June 2023 to 15.07 million tons in June 2024, a 0.7% increase.
Sugar Cane – An additional 335.1 thousand tons were exported.
Cellulose – Exports increased by 182.8 thousand tons.
Uncarded/Uncombed Cotton – An additional 100.1 thousand tons were exported.
Soybean Meal – Exports grew by 84.0 thousand tons.
Green Coffee – An additional 64.6 thousand tons were exported.
These increases added to a 4.5% rise in the quantity index for agribusiness exports.

Noteworthy Achievements in Other Products
Several other products also showed notable performance in the first half of 2024:
Uncarded/Uncombed Cotton – Exports reached a record US$ 2.68 billion, a 236% increase, with 1.39 million tons exported, or 228% up.
Orange Juice – Exports hit a record US$ 1.25 billion, a 24% increase.
