On April 3rd, the Embassy of Brazil in Rome hosted the event “Brazil and Italy – Dialogue on Sustainable Agriculture: Science to Feed the World”. The meeting brought together authorities, researchers, and agribusiness leaders from both countries to explore opportunities for cooperation in sustainable food production.

Representing Brazilian farmers, Sueme Mori, Director of International Relations at the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), joined the panel “Food Security and International Trade: the EU–Mercosur Agreement”.

“External growth helps internal growth. That’s why the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA) is in favor of trade liberalization, because it is also beneficial internally. Whether it’s the agreement with the European Union or other agreements in effect or under negotiation, the CNA participates and supports them, defending the interests of the Brazilian agricultural sector”, said Sueme in her speech.

Alongside Sueme, the panel included:

  • Dario Nardella, Member of the European Parliament

  • Pedro Miguel da Costa e Silva, Ambassador, Brazilian Permanent Mission in Brussels

  • Cristina Tinelli, Director of International and EU institutional relations at Confagricoltura

The discussions reinforced Brazil’s commitment to producing food with environmental responsibility, technological innovation, and traceability. Sueme emphasized the importance of dialogue between producing and consuming nations in shaping fairer and science-based trade policies.

The event opened with remarks by Renato Mosca, Brazilian Ambassador to Italy, followed by a keynote speech from Paolo Garzotti, Director for the Americas at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade.

By joining this strategic exchange, the Brazilian Farmers reaffirm their role as global players in food production, sustainability, and innovation—bringing Brazil’s expertise in tropical agriculture to the international stage.
